Senator ROBERT RAY —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate notes that:

(a)   Senator Colston, in his letter to the President of the Senate of 24 March 1997, stated that, `I wish to make it perfectly clear at the outset that these overpayments were caused by an inadequate book-keeping system which was in place at the time at my electorate office';

(b)   in his letter to the President of 24 March 1997, Senator Colston referred to the inadequate or inefficient book-keeping system in place in his office as a reason for his overpayments on 40 separate occasions;

(c)   Senator Colston referred to the inadequate and inefficient book-keeping system in place in his office on 13 occasions in his letter to the Clerk of the Senate, incorrectly dated 24 March 1996; and

(d)   Senator Colston remains a member of the Parliamentary Retirement Allowances Trust and calls for him to be removed immediately from the trust as a consequence of his appalling administrative and book-keeping practices.
