Senator KERNOT (Leader of the Australian Democrats)(6.34 p.m.) —It was Treasurer Costello who hung the sales tax exemption argument on the rationale that we are going to wipe out rorts. This is a huge rort. This is a double taxation rort. As to Mr Costello saying that it was going to go ahead because there was not much we could do about it, we are showing him what we can do about it and we are going to do it now before he even gets a chance to reinstate a rort.

The CHAIRMAN —Did you envisage the two amendments you have moved being voted on together or did you wish to proceed with the next one and speak to it?

Senator KERNOT —I think we can vote on them together to save time.

   Question put:

That the amendments (Senator Kernot's ) be agreed to.
