Senator SCHACHT —I have an answer to a question that was asked by Senator Ferguson on 25 August alleging that it is the practice of some CES officers to have anybody on their list of people to be case managed who secures employment, regardless of whether any case management services are being provided, included in their figures for people who secure employment as a result of case management. The management of the Department of Employment, Education and Training has given assurances that it does not condone the practices referred to by Senator Ferguson. Only those job seekers within the case management system are to be recorded as achieving case management outcomes.

As I said in response to Senator Ferguson's question last Thursday, if the honourable senator has any specific examples where he believes individual CES practices contravene the guidelines, I would be grateful to receive this information, even in confidence, and refer it to the Minister for Employment, Education and Training, Mr Crean.
