Senator Calvert asked the Minister representing the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 30 June 1994:

  (1) What catering services were provided by Advanced Food Systems, East Sydney, for the Australian Federal Police, at a cost of $724 000.

  (2) Over what period of time were these catering services provided.

  (3) What type of food was provided.

  (4) Was this the entire cost of these services; if not, what was the entire cost.

  (5) Was this service put out to tender; if so what other tenders were received.

  (6) Where was this catering service provided.

  (7) Approximately how many personnel used this catering service.

Senator Bolkus —The Attorney-General has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question.

(1), (2), (3), (6) & (7)

  For the period of 1 July 1993 to 31 March 1994 Advanced Food Systems (AFS) provided catering and accommodation services to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Training College, Brisbane Avenue, Barton ACT. During this period approximately 54,000 meals were served for breakfast, lunch and dinner on a rotating menu basis.

  (4) Yes, for the period July 1993 to March 1994. The service was extended to 30 June 1994 at an additional cost of $165 101.

  (5) The current contract with AFS is in effect an extension of a contract that had been in existence with AFS since the time that AFS took over control of the Commonwealth Accommodation and Catering Service.
