Senator ABETZ —I wish to make a brief personal explanation as I claim to have been misrepresented.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT (Senator Chapman)—The honourable senator may proceed.

Senator ABETZ —I rise in response to the comments by the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, Senator Collins. Let me quote the relevant part of the media release that was issued under my name the other day:

Senator Abetz warned the proposed legislation would presumably allow sodomy and incest just as long as it is done in the privacy of a bedroom.

So the point that I make is very simple. I did not assert that the legislation would allow it; I said it would presumably allow it on the fundamental principle of the right to privacy in the bedroom. Of course, the Attorney-General, Mr Lavarch, has now said very properly that the right to privacy in the bedroom will not extend to the question of incest, and I applaud him for it.
