The PRESIDENT —Before the Senate adjourns I draw the attention of honourable senators to the presence at the Hansard table of Mr Keith Ryder, a senior editor of the Hansard staff, who will retire tomorrow week after 27 years of service to the parliament.

Keith joined Hansard on 1 August 1967, after working in the Queensland Court Reporting Bureau.

He has served under eight Prime Ministers and eight Presidents of the Senate, and has faithfully and professionally reported the proceedings of this chamber, the House of Representatives, the committees of the parliament and various ministerial and international conferences.

In the last couple of years, Keith has been predominantly on the House of Representatives reporting team but, over the years, he has spent the majority of his time in the service of this chamber.

Privately, he is torn between his loyal support for the Canberra Raiders and the Brisbane Broncos.

On behalf of all honourable senators, I extend to Keith the sincere thanks of this chamber for a job well done and wish him,

his wife, Noelene, and their children, Samantha and Joshua, good health and happiness in his retirement.

  Honourable senators—Hear, hear!

Senate adjourned at 10.54 p.m. until Tuesday, 23 August 1994, at 2 p.m.
