Senator BOLKUS (Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Multicultural Affairs) (5.36 p.m.) —The short answer is yes. The actual process will be under the control of the Australian court and as a consequence there will be capacity for examination and cross-examination. Also, representatives of the court, the prosecution and the defence will be allowed to be present in the place where the witness is giving evidence. They would be there to guard against any impropriety at the other end. The inquiry was: will there be a capacity for examination? The answer is yes, there will be.

  Bill agreed to.

Bill reported without amendment; report adopted.
