Senator DEVEREUX —On behalf of Senator Denman, I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, she will move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

    (i)legislation has a major role to play in the overall achievement of an equal society, and

    (ii)the Tasmanian Government has failed and continues to fail to address gender inequality and other forms of inequality within the State;

  (b)is critical of the Tasmanian Government's procrastination in establishing legislation to protect those complainants who have no rights under Commonwealth legislation, particularly in the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 or the Disability Discrimination Act 1992; and

  (c)calls on the Tasmanian Government to fulfil its responsibility to the people of Tasmania and move immediately to rectify the problem by enacting anti-discrimination legislation and establishing an equal opportunity tribunal.
