Senator JONES —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

    (i)20 July 1994 marks the sixth year that the Burmese State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC) has retained without trial political prisoner, Aung San Suu Kyi, and

    (ii)the release of Suu Kyi, a nobel peace prize winner, is crucial to the democratic reform of Burma; and

  (b)urges the Government to continue to protest in the strongest possible terms over the situation in Burma and use all means to bring pressure to bear on the SLORC to bring about democratic government in Burma.
