Senator SANDY MACDONALD —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Transport. The minister will be aware of a matter raised by the shadow transport minister, John Sharp, in the other place on Thursday 9 June regarding a Civil Aviation Authority report reflecting very unfavourably on the operation of Singleton Air Services, trading as Yanda Airlines, a regional airline in New South Wales. The matters raised by the CAA are of such concern that it is my duty to ensure that this airline is safe for the passengers of the Hunter and the north-west. Will the minister provide an immediate assurance that the airline is safe?

Senator COLLINS —I, in fact, pursued information on that matter just before question time. I have been advised that the air safety directorate of the Civil Aviation Authority has replied today to the council, directly addressing the matters that the council raised in its correspondence to the CAA. I have asked the CAA to forward a copy of the air safety directorate's response to the council directly to Senator Sandy Macdonald's office, which I am assured will happen today.
