Senator PANIZZA (10.18 a.m.) —I wish to take a couple of minutes to comment on the organisational side of things. As far as I am concerned, we will be sitting well beyond 10.30 because we are back to the old system that the motion for the adjournment has to be put. We do not automatically go on the adjournment at 10.30, under this motion, so we go back to the old system whereby the government will move to negate the motion and its friends the Democrats will roll over and the Greens will roll over, and the government will get that through.

What worries me from the organisational side of things is that the government has not ruled out Friday, because it can turn around and suspend the sitting until tomorrow. I would be reasonably happy to sit, because it seems to be a fait accompli that we will sit tonight. But before we do anything further, I believe we should be assured completely that we will not be suspending tonight and sitting tomorrow. I would like the government to give us that assurance now.
