Senator IAN MACDONALD —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

(i)the United Progressive Council Team contesting the council elections in Mt Isa on 26 March 1994 is a front for the Australian Labor Party (ALP) with the mayoral candidate and the deputy, respectively, the former chairman and deputy chairman of the ALP,

(ii)the continuing false and untruthful election advertising of the ALP and its front organisations,

(iii)specifically, advertising mentioning a candidate, Mr Rod Wilkinson, who is not an existing member of Council being falsely and untruthfully described as Alderman Rod Wilkinson, a title meaning that the title holder is an existing member of the council, and

(iv)television advertising featuring local Labor politicians and former mayor, Mr McGrady, with the Labor-supported team, which falsely and untruthfully infers that Mr McGrady is part of the team; and

(b)calls on the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters to investigate the false and untruthful advertising of the ALP and its front organisations and to make recommendations for prosecution of all false and untruthful election advertising on an Australia-wide basis.
