Senator COULTER —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

    (i)the level of lead in petrol sold in Australia is very high by the standards of developed countries and that this is having a detrimental effect on the intellectual development of Australian children living in inner city areas and lead smelter towns, and

    (ii)the lead level in Australian fuels is up to 30 times higher than that which applies in the United States of America; and

  (b)calls on the Government to legislate immediately for a national uniform level of lead in petrol of no more than 0.026 grams per litre.
