(Question No. 1344)

Senator Macklin asked the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 21 August 1986:

(1) Can the Minister for Primary Industry inform the Senate of the number of agricultural export transactions carried out by the United States in the past 24 months which have relied on subsidies from the US Treasury (such as in the export enhancement program) to secure contracts.

(2) Can the Minister identify the commodities involved in each transaction, the market in which that commodity was disposed of, the value of each transaction, the amount of subsidy provided by the American Government in each instance, and how much the eventual transaction by the Americans undercut prevailing world prices.

(3) What was Australia's share, in each case, of that particular commodity market prior to American subsidised exports and how much does the Government estimate these subsidised exports depressed world prices.

Senator Walsh —The Minister for Primary Industry has provided an answer to the honourable senator's question.

[Due to the length of the answer, it will not be published in Hansard. However, copies are available from the Senate Table Office.]
