To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate, in Parliament assembled. The humble petition of the under-signed citizens of Australia respectfully showeth that your petitioners are gravely concerned that in the International Year of Peace, young Australians face an uncertain future due to:

1. a continuing arms race between the super-powers which threatens to extend into outer space.

2. military expenditure continuing at ridiculously high levels.

3. continuing testing and stockpiling of nuclear weapons.

Your petitioners therefore humbly call upon the Federal Parliament to do everything possible to make our future more certain, by:

1. encouraging peaceful dialogue through diplomatic channels as the means of solving issues.

2. persuading all developed countries to spend less on armaments, and more on basic needs like food, health, shelter and education for all people of the world.

3. promoting the extension of agreements to reduce testing and stockpiling of nuclear weapons.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
