Senator TOWNLEY(9.41) —I realise quite fully what the departmental rule is. The airlines have a global weight for each passenger. I am saying that first class passengers, or passengers at the front, get half as much space again and therefore should be able to take on board not only a few extra kilograms but a lot of extra weight to make up for the fewer people in that part of the plane. It is time that something was done because a lot of tourists are being harassed. I have seen it happen in Hobart. People have had to go back and check in luggage. The rest of the world is trying to get people to carry their luggage on board but here we are going the other way. I believe Australian work practices are out of step once again.
