Senator GARETH EVANS (Minister for Resources and Energy)(5.29) —As to the first point about art leasing, we will certainly provide the information that is sought. As to the sub-sets of details sought-the honourable senator has already been given some dissection, I understand-of Mr Whitlam's expenses, they are able manageably to be provided. To the extent that there is any innuendo underlying the request about Mr Whitlam being a large burden on the exchequer, I remind the honourable senator that his superannuation has been considerably less of a burden than has been the case with a number of other recently prominent retirees as he did not take it, I understand, as a lump sum.

Certainly, the information sought can be provided. I have no knowledge of the matter to which Senator Michael Baume last referred but, again, I can probably get some further response on that. I remind Senator Baume, before he leaps to his feet again, that I was solemnly assured by the Manager of Government Business that Senator Baume in turn had solemnly assured him that he would not be leaping to his feet indefatigably on all the subsequent items of these estimates. Has he had a change of heart or was I misinformed?
