To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament:

The petition of the undersigned shows:

That the Djiboutian Government intends to repatriate all refugees from that country back to their homelands in Ethiopia by 1st January, 1987. These refugees, Oromos, Tigrayans, Eritreans, Ogaden Somalis and Hararis, all of whom remain bitterly opposed to the ruling Ethiopian Government will risk imprisonment and even execution by being returned.

Your petitioners request that the Senate, in Parliament assembled, should:

Obtain urgent Government protest of the return of these refugees to Ethiopia. Protest should be lodged with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and the Djiboutian Government. As an alternative solution, the Australian Government should offer resettlement in Australia to a number of refugees now in Djibouti.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
