Senator GRIMES (Minister for Community Services)(9.35) —I only have available to me the letter which Senator Chaney received and the briefing from which I quoted earlier which assures me about the concerns of the industry that, in the calculations that have been discussed at length with the Industries Assistance Commission staff, they have re-examined the basis of their estimates and discussed the figures with a number of importers. I have not got their names. I will try to get some information for honourable senators on that. They have also made the claim that, even if the IAC's calculation of wharfage and Customs clearance were out by a most unlikely factor of 50 per cent, the bounty rate, following rounding, would still have been 10 per cent. I cannot give the Committee any more information than that, but I certainly will refer the matter back to Senator Button to see whether we cannot get more detailed explanations than have already been given. I am not sure whether that is possible but I will certainly refer it to the Minister.
