To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth:

1. that the result of the recent Queensland State election, when the National Party received a comfort- able majority in Parliament with a bare 39% of the votes, violates the rights of a majority of citizens to elect a government of their choice; and

2. that consequently there is an urgent need for electoral and constitutional reform at Federal and State level.

Your petitioners most humbly pray that the Senate in Parliament assembled, should: Support the Constitution Alteration (Democratic Elections) 1985 Bill.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
