Senator PETER RAE(10.05) —Perhaps the Minister for Community Services (Senator Grimes) has taken me the wrong way as to who was the moving force. I did not mean that to have any sinister connotations, but rather the explanations given-I do not pause to give great detail-show the Deputy Chair as being the person who contacted other people. It was in that sense that I meant she was the moving spirit, not the person who had necessarily instigated the meeting; nor was I saying the Deputy Chair was the person who had pressed a particular view. But what I am saying is that there is a total, complete and obvious inconsistency. I had hoped the Australian Broadcasting Corporation would have had enough sense to realise that the Senate has been getting more than a little impatient with the inconsistencies and the answers which are given when they are eventually given by the ABC in relation to some of the questions which are asked. Here is an obvious inconsistency: One cannot have the Chairman present at all Board meetings since the inception of the Corporation and have a meeting on 13 April and 14 April in which he was not present and at which a decision of the Board was made. One or other has to be wrong. I ask: Which statement is wrong?
