Senator WALSH (Minister for Finance)(9.30) —The Government does not support amendment No. 4 moved by the Opposition. That amendment proposes an increase in the grower membership of the Australian Wheat Board Selection Committee from five to 10. The Government sees that as quite unnecessary and something that would make the Committee quite large and unwieldy. If the objective is to enable grower members to have a majority on that Committee, that is already provided for in the Bill. The Government sees no point in unnecessarily expanding the number of grower members of that Selection Committee from five to 10. Because of its view on Senator Collard's amendment No. 4 as circulated, the Government is therefore also opposed to his amendment No. 5. Both amendments are incompatible with the objective that this Government has sought to achieve.
