(Question No. 1082)


Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs, upon notice, on 23 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.


Senator Grimes —The Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) There are 63 word processing typists, 37 steno-secretaries and 76 typists employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September there are 11 word processing typists, 3 steno-secretaries and 5 typists who have been, or are off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury. Information relating to data processing operators has not been included.
