Senator PETER RAE(8.27) — The Opposition, believing as it does that the time has come in Australia for the coal export duty to be removed altogether , does not see as attractive the idea that we substitute the coal export duty for a pit-head tax, which would be just substituting one tax for another. We will therefore not be supporting the amendment of the Australian Democrats and we will continue to support the general notion that the situation in the coal industry is such that it is an appropriate time-whatever the situation in the 1970s to which Senator Button referred-for the coal export duty to be removed.
