Senator PRIMMER —I ask the Minister representing the Minister for Defence whether it is a fact that on Saturday, 22 September last a Mr John Griffin from New South Wales was taken to the Woomera Base Hospital in a delirious state, suffering pain, running a fever and unable to walk. Is it a fact that acting under instructions from Canberra the hospital's chief surgeon, Mr Narayan, refused Mr Griffin medical treatment and that Mr Griffin was threatened with police action if he did not leave the casualty ward? Did the South Australian police plead with Mr Narayan to carry out a medical examination and, when that was again refused, take Mr Griffin to the Port Augusta hospital where his illness required hospitalisation for around two weeks?

Senator GARETH EVANS —I will have to take that question on notice, relating as it does to questions of detail on which I have no particular briefing in front of me at the moment.
