Senator REID —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) condemns the Federal Government for not establishing the committee of inquiry into violent pornographic videos before the 1984 election;

(b) notes with concern that as a result of the Federal Government's deliberate stalling on this issue, at least four months will elapse before the promised joint committee will now be set up, showing total disregard for the increasing concern of the people of Australia for the possible harmful side-effects this material is unleashing in this community;

(c) insists the Federal Government now has no alternative but to declare an immediate moratorium on all sales and distribution of 'X' and 'R' rated videos, pending the outcome of this blatantly belated inquiry; and

(d) calls on the Federal Government to support the establishment of a Senate select committee to investigate the problems associated with the sale and distribution of violent pornographic videos in Australia, so that the next four months need not be entirely wasted in this regard.
