Senator LEWIS —My question, which is directed to the Minister representing the Prime Minister, is about the new taxation measures that we read about in the newspapers this morning and in particular the proposal to lift the corporate veil to enable prosecution of directors of companies involved in tax avoidance schemes. Will this proposal enable the Commissioner of Taxation to prosecute the Honourable J. S. Dawkins, the Government's Minister for Finance, for the involvement of his company in its massive tax avoidance scheme involving more than $1m?

Senator BUTTON —I would have thought that Senator Lewis, having regard to his background as I read it, would know that that question, if taken seriously, would require me to give a legal opinion, which I decline to do. But I do not see that as the purpose of the question at all. I see the purpose of that question as the same as that of many other questions that have been asked here in the last week or two-that is, to enable the making of a speech of a derogatory nature about another member of parliament.
