Senator REYNOLDS —Has the attention of the Minister representing the Minister for Science and Technology been drawn to a Queensland news report which claims that overseas flights are regularly landing at the Cairns International Airport without any back-up from the Bureau of Meteorology because of serious staff cutbacks in regional offices over the past five years? Will the Minister take steps to have this report investigated urgently with a view to having an immediate review of weather bureau operations in north Queensland, where cyclonic weather conditions dictate that absolute priority be given to staffing and resources?

Senator RYAN —I have no information available to me here from the Minister for Science and Technology; so I will refer Senator Reynolds's question to him and seek an early reply.
