Senator CHIPP (Leader of the Australian Democrats)(10.32) —I strongly support what Senator Baume said. He does not want an answer tonight. I do not think there is an answer. I vigorously support what Senator Baume said about undesirable advertisements being flashed on to the television screen inadvertently or accidentally on purpose when filming a cricket match, a hockey match or whatever. I also take up Senator Crichton-Browne's point that a great number of sporting events are sponsored by manufacturers of undesirable products . What will the Australian Broadcasting Commission do if it televises an event featuring the visiting English cricket team in some rural part of Western Australia and there happens to be a cigarette advertisement nearby? Will it black it out? All I think Senator Baume and I, and indeed Senator Crichton- Browne, want tonight is for the Minister to put the matter under study over, say , 12 months and, as Senator Baume suggested, to consider the way in which the British Broadcasting Corporation handles this problem so that we can look at this matter when next revising the Act.
