Senator PETER BAUME(10.26)
—It may well be that this is a cosmetic amendment. Senator Chipp referred to some of the words in sub-clauses ( 2) and (3) of clause 27. I would have thought that the clause as drafted probably provided the kinds of safeguards that the honourable senator was seeking. The words 'an adequate number' in sub-clause (2) and the word 'also' at line 35 in sub-clause (3) ensure that the Corporation is required to have its own news service. I note that the Government has accepted the amendment which has been moved and I imagine that it will therefore have support from all around the chamber.
