Senator HILL —My question is directed to the Leader of the Government in the Senate. It follows his failure to answer specifically parts of the previous question from the Opposition. Does the Minister recall his party's election commitment to provide the existing tax concessions on mortgage interest payments ? Can he indicate whether, in the light of that commitment, the Government will review the decision announced last week to terminate those concessions, the effect of which will be to increase mortgage interest rates at a stroke by up to 2 per cent?

Senator BUTTON —I do not personally recall that pre-election commitment.

Opposition senators interjecting-

Senator BUTTON —Opposition senators might laugh. I would like to hear them recall some of their pre-election commitments. That would be an interesting exercise. I will certainly jog my memory for Senator Hill about the first part of the question before the next Question Time. In answer to the second part of the question, which I take to be the most important part, there will be no review of the Government's decision announced last Thursday.
