To the Honourable The Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives

This petition of friends of Mrs …………….

Draws the attention o f the house to the case of Mrs …………… . who wishes to enter Australia as a permanent resident but fits outside the categories of people who are currently eligible to do so.

After being the sole carer for both her parents during their last days and then her husband during his terminal cancer illness she came to Australia for a holiday to see her brother, …………….

While on this holiday she fell in love with this country and wanted to make it her home.

During her time in Australia ……………. made many friends and showed that she would successfully integrate into the Australian way of life.

She is a widow and both her son and daughter are grown-up and making their own way in the world and support her wish to immigrate to Australia.

In the family reunion program if there is only one remaining family member offshore they are allowed entry.

However if there is only one family member in Australia it is not permitted for them to have an offshore family member enter for reunion and companionship. If she was allowed to enter it would allow her to live with her brother which would enrich both their lives.

We therefore ask the house to grant Mrs. …………… . leave to apply for permanent residency in Australia on family reunion grounds.
