To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives:

This petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the House, the Government’s commitment on 26/1/1988, giving amnesty to all immigrants/refugees, at that time, which, to this day, has still to be en-acted.

A National Human Rights Consultation was launched on 10th December 2008, seeking the views of the Australian public on which human rights and responsibilities they consider are important … still to be finalized.

We therefore ask the House to consider: Is it not a “Universal truth” that all men and women are created equal, and endowed, by the Creator, with the power of creative reason? i.e. human.

Is it not the expression of this creativity, through education, and advances and application of scientific discoveries, that has lead to the improvements in the standards of living, and subsequently, the ability to support higher population densities?

We have a pool of potential, within the immigrants and refugees in Australia, many who are participating already without recognition, support or even acknowledgement of their existence as an human being here.

We, the undersigned call upon the Australian Government to en-act the necessary legislation giving amnesty, protection, support and recognition to all immigrants/ refugees within Australia.

Mrs Irwinby (from 9 citizens)
