Mr BOWEN (Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Corporate Law and Minister for Human Services) (11:29 AM) —One of my favourite subjects at university was economic history—I loved it—and I am more than happy to engage in this tutorial with the honourable member. I did Australian, Japanese and German economic history. It was a great subject which I can recommend to anybody who is thinking of studies in economics. I refer the honourable member to my previous answer, which was that I do think that taxation of consumption is an appropriate policy setting in the Australian system. I can confirm, in response to the honourable member’s allegation, that we have no changes to make to the GST.
