Mr TURNBULL (Leader of the Opposition) (4:25 PM) —On indulgence: the opposition is very pleased to see that Mr Nicolaides has been returned to his family in Australia. I compliment the government on its efforts in securing his release. The opposition, as the Minister for Foreign Affairs acknowledged, has worked closely with the government, both sides recognising that the object was not to engage in a political debate about the merits of Thailand’s legal system but rather to ensure that an Australian citizen was released from custody and came home to Australia to his family.

Mr Rudd —Mr Speaker, I ask that further questions be placed on the Notice Paper.
