Mr Melham asked the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, in writing, on 16 September 2008:

To date, what costs have been incurred by the Australian Building and Construction Commission in the case of Hadgkiss v CFMEU, Lane and Casper, for: (a) solicitors; and (b) counsel.


Ms Gillard (Minister for Education, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Minister for Social Inclusion) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

(a)   As at 17 September 2008, the Office of the Australian Building and Construction Commissioner has incurred solicitor’s costs of $697,950.42 in the case of Hadgkiss v CFMEU, CFMEU (NSW), Lane and Casper.

(b)   As at 17 September 2008, the Office of the Australian Building and Construction Commissioner has incurred counsel costs of $212,792.99 in the case of Hadgkiss v CFMEU, CFMEU (NSW), Lane and Casper.
