Mr Pearce asked the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, in writing, on 11 March 2008:

How many departmental staff (including permanent, temporary and casual staff) work in the Minister’s Parliament House office, and that of any other Minister and Parliamentary Secretary associated with the Minister’s portfolio; and what is their length of service in the office.

Mr Griffin (Minister for Veterans’ Affairs) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

2 = 1 Departmental Liaison Officer (DLO) and 1 Departmental Graduate.

DLO placements are usually for a period of 18 months.   As part of its Graduate Program the Department offers 1 x 4 month and 2 x 3 month rotation periods each year to its Graduates to assist and work with the DLO and gain valuable broader portfolio knowledge.
