Mr Bowen asked the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, in writing, on 29 March 2006:

(1)   Did the department or any agency in the Minister’s portfolio pay for massages for its staff in 2005; if so, what sum was spent on this purpose.

(2)   What was the cost per massage.

(3)   How many staff made use of the service.


Mr Billson (Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

(1)   Yes. Total $1,455 (including $132 GST). The massages were provided as part of special health promotion programs. There is no on-going program that provides massages for staff.

(2)   240 massages were provided at $5.50 each (5 minutes duration). 9 massages were provided at $15.00 each (15 minutes duration).

(3)   249
