Ms Corcoran
asked the Minister for Health and Ageing, in writing, on 16 June 2005:
(1) What are the terms of reference for the review of the Therapeutic Goods Administration being conducted by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
(2) When will the review be (a) completed and (b) made public.
Mr Abbott (Minister for Health and Ageing)
—The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:
(1) The terms of reference for the review of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), conducted by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, were as follows: Review the recommendations of the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) report No.18 and the status of TGA initiatives in progress / completed in accordance with the ANAO report. Assess recent regulatory actions to enforce compliance to draw lessons for the future that will assist TGA decision making affecting public health and safety. Develop broader recommendations to the TGA on issues such as governance, procedural improvement, risk management and performance management.
(2) (a) The review will be completed by 29 July 2005. (b) A summary of the report will be made available after it has been received by the department.
