Mr Rudd asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in writing, on 23 June 2005:

(1) How does the Department record its consular case load.

(2) Has the Department recorded an increase in the number of consular cases that Australian Embassies deal with.

Mr Downer (Minister for Foreign Affairs) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

(1) Consular staff use the Consular Management Information System (CMIS) database to record, manage and archive information on consular cases.

(2) Yes. Consular statistics are published annually in the Department’s Annual Report.
