Mr ANTHONY SMITH (1:46 PM) —On Saturday morning I had the pleasure of witnessing first-hand the magnificent work of a local environmental group in Montrose, in the Casey electorate. That group is the Thompson’s Road Area Community Fireguard and Landcare Group. This is a group of dedicated volunteers who work most weekends to repair and restore the local environment in Montrose, in the Dandenong Ranges. They have had the assistance of a $21,000 Envirofund grant, and with that they are replacing many of the invasive weeds in the area with indigenous plants. In fact by the time they finish their work they will have planted 4,000 plants in their own time, and they are doing that very much as a strong community group. I want to particularly pay tribute to Noel Morgan, Ben Clark, who does the newsletter, Ray Malins, George Gredler, Helen Rasmussen, who is the treasurer, and Chris Morgan, who is another hardworking leader of this team which has worked over many months to improve the local environment in Montrose. They show a very strong dedication to their local community and their environment.
