Mrs Irwin asked the Minister for Human Services, in writing, on 6 December 2004:

(1)   How many (a) in total, (b) sole parents, and (c) Disability Support Pensioners in the electoral division of Fowler were recipients of the Pensioner Education Supplement at 30 June 2004.

(2)   How many Youth Allowance recipients in the electoral division of Fowler were undertaking (a) secondary studies, (b) tertiary studies at a university, and (c) tertiary or post-secondary studies at another approved education institution at 30 June 2004.

(3)   How many Austudy recipients in the electoral division of Fowler were attending (a) primary school, (b) secondary school, (c) another approved education institution, and (d) undertaking postgraduate studies at 30 June 2004.

(4)   How many Abstudy recipients in the electoral division of Fowler were attending (a) primary school, (b) secondary school, (c) another approved education institution, and (d) undertaking postgraduate studies at 30 June 2004.


Mr Hockey (Minister for Human Services) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

(1)   As at 30 June 2004, in the electoral division of Fowler, 255 Centrelink customers were recipients of the Pensioner Education Supplement, 122 were sole parents receiving the Pensioner Education Supplement and 59 were Disability Support Pensioners receiving the Pensioner Education Supplement.

(2)   As at 30 June 2004, in the electoral division of Fowler, 1,762 Youth Allowance recipients were undertaking secondary studies, 915 youth Allowance recipients were undertaking tertiary studies at a university and 364 youth Allowance recipients were tertiary or post-secondary studies at another approved education institution.

(3)   As at 30 June 2004, in the electoral division of Fowler, less than 20 Austudy recipients were attending primary school, less than 20 Austudy recipients were attending secondary school, 159 Austudy recipients were attending another approved institution and less than 20 were undertaking postgraduate studies.

(4)   As at 30 June 2004, in the electoral division of Fowler, less than 20 Abstudy recipients were attending primary school, 103 were attending secondary school, 33 were attending another approved institution and less than 20 were undertaking postgraduate studies.

Note 1: Where requested data reveals customer numbers of less than 20, the actual number of recipients is not identified to prevent identification of individuals as required by Privacy Law.

Note 2: The computer software used to identify customers by electorate is accurate to +/- 10%.
