Note 2: The categories of people who receive Health Care Cards are people on low incomes, foster children, certain disabled children, and former long-term unemployed income support recipients who have obtained employment (such customers can retain their card for six (6) months after entering employment, to ease the transition from welfare to work).

Note 3: The data is based on the number of cards issued that remain current and have not yet reached their expiry date. Due to recent system enhancements, these data no longer include cancelled cards, and are therefore a more accurate reflection of actual Health Care Card numbers than data provided prior to 1 July 2004.
