Ms LEY (1:49 PM) —I would like to table two petitions in the House today. The first contains 2,866 signatures and concerns aged care funding. Aged care providers in the seat of Farrer have significant concerns about their ability to continue to provide appropriate levels of care to the aged in our community as a consequence of current funding policies. The petition has been circulated in the electorate of Farrer and surrounding electorates and it calls for government action on these concerns. I will talk about these concerns and this petition in more detail later on.

The second petition I would like to table has 320 signatures. It comes from certain residents of the state of New South Wales who draw the attention of the House to the fact that Channel 10 is not available in the Wentworth and Buronga regions. The petitioners would like the minister to consider granting the necessary licence to facilitate the addition of Channel 10 in Mildura and outlying areas of western New South Wales. I hereby table the petitions.

The petitions read as follows—

To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament:

The petition of certain residents of the State of New South Wales draws to the attention of the House to the fact that Channel 10 is not available in the Wentworth and Buronga region of the Electorate of Farrer. The petitioners hereby pray that the House will consider granting the necessary licence to facilitate the addition of Channel 10 in Mildura so that this region can be brought into line with the rest of the state with regards to Free to Air Access.

from 320 citizens.

To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives assembled in parliament:

The petition of certain electors of the Division of Farrer draws to the attention of the House that Aged Care providers in the seat of Farrer have significant concerns in their ability to continue to provide appropriate levels of care to the aged in our community as a reflection of current funding policies.

Your petitioners therefore pray that the House will increase Commonwealth subsidies to reflect the real cost of providing aged care.
