Ms Vamvakinou asked the Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 6 February 2003:

Further to the answer to question No. 997 (Hansard, 2 December 2002, Page 9420) concerning the sale of surplus defence land at the Maygar Barracks site in Camp Road, Broadmeadows, is the Government aware of past instances where land has been gifted to the public in perpetuity; if so, what parcels of land were gifted and in what year.


Mrs Vale (Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Since the introduction of the Commonwealth Property Principles in 1996, there has been no Defence land gifted to the public in perpetuity.
