Mr Jenkins asked the Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, upon notice, on 6 February 2003:

What sums were allocated in local government financial assistance grants in (a) 2001-2002 and (b) 2002-2003 to the (i) City of Whittlesea, (ii) City of Banyule, (iii) Shire of Nillumbik and (iv) City of Darebin.

Mr Tuckey (Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Each year the Federal Government provides untied funding to Local Government through the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995. Distribution of these grants is detailed in the Report on the Operation of the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995 (commonly known as the National Report) tabled in Parliament as soon as practicable after 30 June each year. Financial assistance grants are untied in the hands of Local Government.
