Mr MURPHY (1:59 PM) —Last Friday, I received an email from a constituent and it read:

Dear Mr Murphy, Could you please convey my strongest objections to war with Iraq. I do not support it even with a UN sanction. This is not our war; it is a war for US and Israeli interests. I am extremely alarmed of the legacy this government will leave my young son. I would be grateful if you could convey this message in parliament when you have an opportunity. Yours sincerely ...

The constituent did not want to be named. Like many people who marched in Sydney a couple of weeks ago against the potential war in Iraq, this constituent reflects the way my electorate feels about this issue. I believe that it was closer to 500,000 people who marched in Sydney, not 250,000 as was reported widely in the media.

The SPEAKER —Order! It being 2 p.m., in accordance with standing order 106A the time for members' statements has concluded.
