Mr PRICE (10:58 PM) —I thank the minister for his response. Clearly things have changed since I last saw it. Can I say in relation to children and education that I do not support the stand of the Premier in South Australia nor that of the mayor of Port Augusta, but I do not understand why negotiations could not have been advanced or in parallel with the Catholic education system, who I understand are—


Mr Ruddock —The question is whether or not you are putting people who have very different religions into the Catholic system if the secular system is available.


Mr PRICE —You did it at Port Hedland. The other point I would make—and this was particularly said to me by teenagers in Baxter—is that there ought to be some consideration for TAFE programs where they are more appropriate than school programs. That currently has not been the situation, and I can understand that, but I hope the minister will take the issue on board when he is thinking of the educational needs of children.
