Mr SERCOMBE (3:11 PM) —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Special Minister of State. It refers to the affairs of a registered political party under the Commonwealth Electoral Act. Is the minister aware of the failure of the Liberal Party's shadow treasurer in Victoria, Robert Dean, to be correctly enrolled and thus be eligible to stand for election? Minister, what does it say about the Liberal Party's ability to manage the Victorian economy if its senior members cannot even manage to be correctly enrolled?

Mr ABBOTT —Mr Speaker—

The SPEAKER —I warn the member for Corio!

Mr ABBOTT —What I can say to the member for Maribyrnong is that this government—and this Liberal Party—believes in equality under the law. That is what we believe in: equality under the law. Certainly, as far as this government is concerned, the gentleman in question should be treated in exactly the same way as anyone else who finds himself or herself in that position would be treated.

The SPEAKER —I warn the member for Lalor!
