Mr STEPHEN SMITH (3:26 PM)
—Mr Speaker, I wish to make a personal explanation.
The SPEAKER
—Does the member for Perth claim to have been misrepresented?
Mr STEPHEN SMITH
—I do, Mr Speaker.
The SPEAKER
—The member for Perth may proceed.
Mr STEPHEN SMITH
—During question time, the Minister for Ageing suggested that recent comments I had made about targeted measures to reverse the dramatic decline of bulk-billing in outer metropolitan and rural and regional Australia somehow endorsed or supported the government's election commitment said to improve access to GP services in outer metropolitan areas. I share the scepticism of the AMA and the Royal College of General Practitioners about the practical effect and outcome of that government program.
The SPEAKER
—For the information of members, I will allow the member for Perth's misrepresentation to stand, but I will look more closely at it. I am not sure if he has indicated where he was misrepresented. I am not accusing him of not doing so; I am saying that I wonder whether I ought to have intervened. I have allowed it to stand.
